Party Bags

Reading other ladies blogs, I see that there are strong feelings about party bags. Sorry, I don't remember who wrote it, but it was that she really hates doing them, but bowed to the pressure because it was just too scarey not to. I have to confess here, that I always used to refuse to do them! Pretty rich considering I now run a Party Bag Business, I know.
I remember all the children piling in to the local village hall for my daughters' 8th Birthday. At least a third of them came straight over to me and asked to see the party bags. I was furious at their bad manners and appalled that I had to confess I hadn't got any. So the next time there was a party, I bowed to the pressure and produced the obligatory party accessory. I'm sure we all feel the same, we don't want to do them, but everyone seems to these days.
I personally don't like plastic bags and cheap rubbishy toys, I guess I am a party bag snob, but I get sick of them being left on the floor in the car after collecting my children from parties, they just seem pointless. And of course now, I can't get out of doing party bags because it's what I do, but still I get surprised by my clients. I suppose the average party spend of my customers is £5 a bag, it varies between £3 and £8. A lovely lady in Kent phoned me last week saying she didn't want to go too mad, but is happy to spend £18 per bag, I wish she had six children!

Frog, I know what you mean, and think party bags are a necessary evil. When my son was 2 (2!) he went to a party and came back with a bag that probably had a total retail value of around £20; even the wrapper was no common or garden party bag but a vinyl mini-shopper from Daisy & Tom. What happened to that stock favourite from my childhood; a pot of bubbles and a slice of birthday cake wrapped up in paper towel?

Of course, we also lived in a paper bag and had to lick t'gravel off road for breakfast...

I also get frustrated by the party bag thing, but have found a wonderful company that will deliver them to me ready-made! I think her name is Frog or something like that, and her products are Fantastic ;-)!

Darling Frog, your party bags look gorgeous. My home is cluttered with ugly cheap plastic 'things' that we have collected over the last 2 months from various parties. I have to secretly throw them out when my daughter is asleep. I'm sure many of them would fail health and safety tests!

I obviously live in a differnet world - £18 on a party bag, per child?!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never did succumb to the pressure. Always did a lucky dip and the kids loved it as they'd never seen it before.

Potty Mummy, please give your friendly party bag giver my website address, she sounds wonderful.

Dear Pig, you are my favourite client!

Ingenious Rose, thank you for your kind comments.

@themill not many of my customers are happy to spend this amount per bag, don't worry. I think lucky dip is a great way to do it.

Sparx thanks for visiting me. Have a fantastic Birthday Party!

Ooh, Tattie, sorry, I missed you out..I'm such a bad manner toad this morning! Thank you for visiting again. Around here, peer pressure is definitely from the children, not the Mums.
