Fireworks
November the 5th was a filthy wet and windy night.
Everyone in our house was grumpy.
Nothing would placate the two youngest, not even Jaffa cakes!
"Right!" said Darling Husband "Who wants to see some fireworks?"
"Me! Me!!" they shouted.
The two youngest covered themselves in thick warm clothes and set off with Daddy.
On their return they came in with glowing faces, tired out and flopped into bed.
Darling Husband poured himself a drink..
"Well, we drove to the Golf Course, but it seemed to be cancelled, lots of other people turned up - but there were no fireworks.
So, we went into town and just saw the last ones going up in the distance.
We drove out to Llanarth, as it started later, and got there a few minutes late.
The little one was frightened by the fireworks and refused to get out of the car.
She finally got brave and we all got out.
They wanted a hot dog...
We got hotdogs,
We missed the last fireworks
The Little one hated the hotdog
I said I'd eat it, she threw it on the floor in temper."
Big Sigh.

Practical parenting - Lesson 1 - never expect gratitude! t.x
Sounds like yours was as anti- climatic as ours.....We went up to the fireworks on Clapham Common...Littleboy 1 ran all the way there, really excited, telling everyone he met he was going to see fireworks. By the time he got there he was exhausted and wasn't in the mood. He cried all the way through and covered his face with his hands, refusing to look at them!
The last firework display we went to was a month before leaving Scotland for the US. My daughter was 2, and I hadn't foreseen how scared she'd be (she wasn't a scaredy kind of toddler). Because I'd arranged to meet Husband and boys somewhere, and couldn't leave without them, I just had to kneel down and wrap her in my arms and soothe her till it was over. Unfortunately, her other fear at the time was flying (which we were obviously going to have to do), and she made a bad connection between going 'up in the air' on a plane, and what actually happens 'up in the air' - all those loud bangs and explosions. Not good.
Sigh, welcome back Froggy! Sorry fireworks were a bit of a damp squib...MH
We should do as the French do, and have it in July!
The best place to be on November 5th is at home. This year we all sat on the bed with the lights off, watching everyone elses. Even then my youngest was scared!
We only managed to watch a few from the top of our stairs on our way back from a bonfire party; boy #2 now thinks that whenever he hears any kind of a bang it's a firework, and cups his hand to his ear expectantly, hoping to hear more. For some reason though he isn't desperate to rush outside and actually SEE them...
We completely missed the fireworks this year. Probably hard to believe in this firework popping country. At least there's new years eve....
We managed to pretty much miss the fireworks this year too. Miss E isn't too fussed and M is scared of the hand driers in public toilets so I think we'll leave it for a year or so. The rain was also an issue. Maybe we'll do it next year. I do like a good bonfire. :D
Not so good then. xx
You didn't miss much, then!
I would go for hotdogs over fireworks any day. I even have a 5 minute rule, I would have pick that hotdog off the floor and ate it (well maybe not).
Sounds like you got the best deal!
You stayed home. You had the BEST night in your family eh?
Bless.
Oh how we parents try. And try. And try again.
oh i love having kids, it's all roses, chocolates, big hugs and 'you're the best!'.
Well done him for trying.
How crafty of you to stay home.
Pigx
Sounds like a typical family outing! We sent husband out in drizzling rain to set fireworks off while we sat in dining room watching through window and eating chocolates - recommend it!
We actually did something right. Got to Hexham in time to see it all. Parked in the best place. Girl loved it and boy hated it. Can't please 'em all...
